It’s not easy to design on a budget, and that’s a fact. When it comes to decorating your house, the task can become a bit overwhelming, especially when you needed to purchase furniture, kitchen items and everything else in order to make your home livable.

For that reason, it’s common to decorate a house on a budget, and it is achievable. So how exactly do you achieve this? Here are 10 decor pieces that look expensive but aren’t actually to give your home some flair.

1. Use Plants

When decorating your home, plants are often passed up, either due to an individual’s inability to keep them alive or simply because they aren’t thought of as decorative pieces. However, plants can be a very inexpensive way to add some flair to your home.

First of all, for you plant killers out there, faux plants work just as well, and there are very realistic, inexpensive options. For those that opt for the real deal, you can choose flowers that accentuate your color scheme or ferns that simply add a little life to a room. Whether big or small, these are always a great addition!

2. Put up Shelves

Shelves are rarely thought of as decorative, however, they are a fantastic way to add dimension (and room) to any room that you put them in. Shelves are a place to put plants, pictures, trinkets and any other decorative pieces that would look out of place somewhere else.

Selecting the correct color, style, and size for the room of your choice is the key to ensuring that shelves are a decorative piece that adds flair to your home.

3. Pictures Go a Long Way

Another super low-cost option, framing some of your family, vacation and other photos is an inexpensive way to add a little more decor to your home. It costs very little to print out a few of your favorite pictures, and finding budget frames isn’t too difficult either.

I would browse thrift shops and other discount stores for frames that are visually appealing and match the color scheme and style of the intended room. From here, presto! You have more decor for less money.

4. Buy Inexpensive Pieces Online

To this same end, buying inexpensive pieces online is not all that difficult, especially now that Amazon is an entity that delivers home goods. Simply type in the item that you’re looking for and watch the options roll in.

Depending on your budget, browse through the selection and choose the item that works best for your space. The more attention you pay to how well the item fits in, the better. Whether furniture pieces, wall hangings or shelves, online shopping is a great way to save money.

5. Use Throw Pillows/Blankets

You may laugh at the obscene amount of throw pillows in someone’s home, but the truth is, they can really make a room pop and add that flair that you’ve desperately been seeking.

Throws, whether blankets or pillows, are a great way to breathe life into a stale room, or to simply accentuate the color scheme that you have chosen for that room. Plus, they are usable, so the space isn’t being taken up for no reason, which works well for both large and small spaces.

Basically, if there’s room for a throw, you should definitely add one to the space. Just don’t overdo it! No one wants to be drowning in pillows with nowhere to sit.

6. Wall Hangings Are Key

Last, but not least, wall hangings are key when it comes to adding some flair to your home for no money at all. Yes, wall hangings look very expensive. No, they are not actually that expensive.

So long as you aren’t looking at professional art from DaVinci, you’re going to be just fine when it comes to your budget. Pick out some paintings or other items that you think work well for your space and add that splash of color and/or life to the room without worrying about your bank account.

Hangings fit above beds, couches, in the kitchen or dining room, etc. So really, there isn’t a place that they wouldn’t fit in, which makes them a great addition to any room!

Again, decorating your home so that it looks nice but doesn’t break the bank is an achievable goal. While it may not seem like it at first, there are processes you can follow in order to have a great looking house for little to no money.

The above six steps are a good starting point to ensuring you are on the right track when it comes to home decor, but be sure to do some shopping around to see what works best for your aesthetic. Everyone is different, so decor needs to fit into your personal style.
